On December 4, 2019, Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) announced it will be partnering with Novartis AG, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.
“AWS’s security, scalability, and highly reliable infrastructure can help Novartis advance its technical operations with greater agility and customer-orientation, and potentially reduce the time it takes to bring innovative medicines to patients.” — Mike Clayville, Vice President, Worldwide Commercial Sales at AWS
The Partnership
AWS and Novartis have entered into a multiyear collaboration. Novartis will use AWS’ portfolio of cloud services for its manufacturing, supply chain and delivery operations.
The intention of this partnership is to increase efficiencies in the manufacturing and delivery of medications.
Innovation in Healthcare
Amazon continues to expand their growing presence in the healthcare industry.
As recent as September, 2019, Amazon announced its virtual health clinic for Seattle-based employees and their families aimed to provide telemedicine, in-person services, in-home follow-up appointments and serve as a vehicle for prescribing medications.
Earlier in 2019, the innovative giant partnered with healthcare organizations that were interested in developing skills for Alexa to make it possible for the device to handle patient information.
In 2018, Amazon acquired online pharmacy PillPack and teamed up with Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan to create a new healthcare company.
