Insurance Carriers’ Brave of Heart Fund to Support Families

Together, the New York Life Foundation and the Cigna Foundation have partnered with E4E Relief to establish the Brave of Heart Fund. The fund has been put into place to provide charitable grants to eligible family members of frontline workers and volunteers who have lost their lives to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

New York Life Foundation is matching gifts from individuals, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25 million. Seeded with the initial $50 million in funding from the New York Life Foundation and the Cigna Foundation, the goal is to raise a total of $100 million to offer this much needed financial support.

If interested, donations are being accepted at BraveofHeartFund.com — current fund supporters can be found there as well. Cash grant awards will provide basic and continuing financial support for critical needs such as funeral costs, medical care, food, educational expenses, mortgage or rent payments and immediate living expenses, as these families manage the detrimental impact of the COVID-19 crisis. Grants are also available for families of fallen healthcare workers who need help bearing the burden of the economic impact and loss of income.

In addition to the fund, Cigna has made a range of resources available to support behavioral and emotional health and well-being. These resources are available to all, and include advice for coping with stress, fear and anxiety, living with grief and loss, building resilience, self-care, and relaxation techniques — as well as finding childcare and learning financial best practices during these uncertain times.
