The Race Against Hunger Virtual 5K Run/Walk, formerly known as the Walk Against Hunger, has arrived! Now in its 25th year, the race has become a beloved event in the Philadelphia region, continuing to inspire and bring together community members for an important cause — to end hunger one step at a time.
While this year’s event will be virtual, participants are encouraged to walk or run the 5K between Friday, April 16th and Monday, April 26th. The miles can be completed anywhere, such as from the comfort of your own home, at a gym, on a trail or with the innovative RaceJoy app. Through the app, you can follow the designated Kelly Drive route, enter your race-assigned bib number and submit results.
Additionally, Race Against Hunger gives individuals the opportunity to create a fundraising page or join one of the several existing fundraising teams, and support efforts aimed at helping individuals who struggle to put food on their table. Registration is $30 and will be open through April 25, 2021. Kids can also get involved by registering to walk the virtual 5K for $5. By signing up, all participants will receive a free T-shirt!
Proceeds benefit an anti-hunger leader, The Coalition Against Hunger, and its programs that connect households with the food resources they need. For example, through the Race Against Hunger’s support of food pantries, soup kitchens, and the SNAP (food stamp) Hotline, as well as advocation for policies that create access to nutrition programs for more than 730,000 people living in the Greater Philadelphia region that struggle with food insecurity.
Race Against Hunger is encouraging all participants to ask their network of family and friends to donate to their Race fundraising page. The more money participants raise, the more food for families in need.
